Get The Glass: 3D Online Board Game

Posted on 28 March 2007 by Christine Lank

Get the Glass! is an online board game where the object is to help the Adachi family find some milk while the milk police is in hot pursuit bent on sending them to Milkatraz. You have various timed challenges to perform (some of which are a little ridiculous) and trivia to answer along the way.

What’s really impressive about this game is the graphics. Here is a screenshot and you can check the game out for yourself at: http://www.gettheglass.com/.

Best Commodore 64 Game Archive Ever!

Posted on 27 March 2007 by Christine Lank

If you’re looking for the best place to download a ton of Commodore 64 games to play on your portable VICE emulator, visit http://c64g.com/.

Here are a few games I’ve downloaded so far:

Max Headroom
I was really happy to have found this game! Now, if only I can figure out how to play it, I’ll be all set!

Mountie Mick’s Death Ride
Ever dream of being a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police? Okay, maybe you haven’t but Mountie-based games are very rare indeed – too bad! This is a fun side scrolling game where you play a train-hopping Mountie chasing and shooting the bad guys. It even lets you play with unlimited lives!

Pole Position
One of the best car games ever! I played most of the Need for Speed games but this one is still my favorite.

Floppy Office – An App Collection under 2 MB!

Posted on 26 March 2007 by Christine Lank

Need to make more room on your flash drive for all those portable games? Most portable app collections are 80 MB and more but this little collection, called Floppy Office, could fit on a floppy disk (remember those?)! Well, if they are zipped, that is. Once all the apps are unzipped, the size is just over 2.5 MB – still incredibly small!

Here is a list of apps taken from the readme file:

KPad (kPad.zip) – A simple MDI Rich Text editor
(replaces Wordpad)

NPopUK (nPOPuk.exe) – A complete POP3 email client
(almost replaces Outlook Express)

Ted (tnp503le_uni.zip) – An unbelievably full featured notepad replacement which
supports unicode.(completely replaces notepad, and then some)

EVE (eve.zip)- A vector editor graphics program which can serve as a flow chart tool
(replaces MS Paint, even though Paint is a bitmap editor…)

iFtp (iftp-win32-v199.zip)- A simple FTP client
(replaces WSFTP)

110k Zipper (100ziper.exe) – A small zip/unzip utility
(almost replaces Winzip)

PDF Producer (PDFproducerExe.zip) – A simple text-PDF conversion application
(almost replaces PDF printer driver)

Spread32 (spread32.zip) – A full-featured spreasheet program.
Version 19991112 Beta is the last free one. (almost replaces MS Excel)

MemPad (mempad.zip) – keeps little tree sytle notes with a handy index.
(handy rudimentary outliner)

RenameFiles (renamefiles_v2.42_us.zip) – a handy program for
renaming multiple files in a single step

Plus:

dsCrypt (dscrypt.exe) – An AES/Rijndael file encryption software

X-Pass (xpass.zip) – X-Pass reveals all system password fields

dsDEL (dsdel.exe) – dsDEL is a secure file deletion utility

TinyWeb Server (tinyweb.zip) – Complete web server, WWW supports MIME file typing, CGI, common log format, and multi-hosting

TinyBox (tinybox.zip) – A graphical user interface for TinyWeb Server!

Donkey Kong, Scramble, PacMan and more!

Posted on 23 March 2007 by Christine Lank

This site has a bunch of small portable arcade games: http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/freeware01/gamemaker.htm

I tested out Donkey Kong, Scramble, Burger Time and Space Invaders but there are much more to choose from such as 2 PacMan clones, Nibbles and other Commodore 64 remakes. The games I tested are all pretty small at around 3 MB or less. The Burger Time had neat graphics but was a bit frustrating at first – you have to be exactly aligned to move on and around the ladders and it’s hard to tell at first until you get the hang of it. Scramble was fun and quite challenging; Donkey Kong was great!

There are 18 free arcade games to try out; should be enough to keep you busy over the weekend.

3D Modeling Portable App

Posted on 22 March 2007 by Christine Lank

Here is a really interesting graphics app I found while browsing the list of portable apps on the Loose Wire blog. It’s an amazing 3D modeling and animation program called Anim8or. The program is self-contained in a single exe file and is incredibly small – under 2 MB – and it’s free! The site has a bunch of tutorials to get you started and an impressive gallery. After you’ve made some 3D pictures, you can even make some animated movies – there are also some user submitted samples of these on the site.

So if you’ve ever wanted to to try your hand at 3d modeling or wanted to make your own animations – this little portable program is a great place to start!

Ghosbusters Paper Craft Car

Posted on 19 March 2007 by Christine Lank

Here’s something a little different today – instead of playing the portable Ghostbusters Remake game, build a very realistic model of the very cool Ghostbusters Ecto-1 car entirely out of paper! Scroll all the way down to the bottom of that website’s page to download the instructions and printouts – they are all in jpg format. While you’re there, check out the instructions to build a paper version of the Back to the Future time travel car and Mad Max’s car. The detail in the models is incredible! I’ve got to build that Ghostbusters car right away!

Super Mario Mayhem and Super Mario underground

Posted on 17 March 2007 by Christine Lank

Two games from Bonzomonks; one is a full game and the other is actually a work in progress but you can play 3 levels in the meantime.

Super Mario Mayhem is a great game with 18 levels and only 1.15 MB. It’s funny and lots of fun!

Super Mario Underground is the demo game that I’m anxious to see finished! The three levels should keep you busy for a bit though.

Super Mario War Multiplayer

Posted on 17 March 2007 by Christine Lank

Time to catch up on Mario Week posts, so here’s a portable multi-platform Super Mario multiplayer game called Super Mario War. I wasn’t able to test this one since I couldn’t find anyone to play with but it looks pretty good. You can play up to four players and there are lots of different game modes to choose from. Check out all the screenshots of the game on the web site!

Super Mario Pac

Posted on 13 March 2007 by Christine Lank

Another portable Mario game for Mario Week called Super Mario Pac for Windows. It’s very small at just 1 MB! Here’s a description of the game from the web site:

Mario is trapped and being attacked by evil creatures, he must use his plumbing skills and the FLUDD backpac he acquired on a recent holiday to escape. Control Mario, moving him left, right and water-thrusting him into the air, in order to collect and assemble his pipe escape route and poison any plants in his way. Use the FLUDD water cannon to drench the attacking enemies. Don’t forget to refill your FLUDD backpac regularly or you’ll really be in trouble!
